Customer Data in the Cloud

QA3116

Question

Do you store any customer data in a Cloud environment either within or outside of the EEA (European Economic Area)?

An overwhelming majority of organisations (86%) do not store any customer data in the cloud.  One organisation who does have some solutions that store customer data has taken a three layered approach checking whether if it is legal to store the data in the proposed location, how the data centre will be managed and whether the cloud application processing the data is secure.  Compliance with local data legislation and EU legislation was also key.  Backup and business continuity should also be considered to ensure that any fail over location also meets the same strict regulations.
