Summary

In May 2012 The Corporate IT Forum conducted a Reality Checker survey to understand which products are in place, browsers used and operating systems exploited. Has the day for Windows 2000 and XP really passed? Key findings show that there is a viable cloud desktop option, IE8 is the preferred browser and nearly a quarter are now using Windows 7. Contributing organisations represent an annual IT spend of £13.2 billion, employ over 1.5 million people and have nearly 2,000 years collective experience with desktops and operating systems.

Headline findings

  • Half investigating Office 365.
  • Office 2000 and 2002/XP are fast becoming obsolete.
  • More than a quarter are analysing Google Apps.
  • Clear migration away from Windows 2000 and XP.
  • One quarter now use Windows 7.
  • Windows Server 2003 usage halved over last 12 months.
