Due to overwhelming demand and as a result of the recent webinar, this workshop discussed the security implications of deployment, the legal and HR implications of corporate policies, and the tools used.
Summary
This is the second Corporate IT Forum workshop focusing on Deploying iPads & Other Post PC Devices. The first was held in early December 2010, and was attended by 28 delegates representing 22 organisations. At that workshop delegates requested that another be arranged shortly after Christmas 2010, which would feature case studies and further discussion.
This workshop, hosted by The Corporate IT Forum, was attended by 71 delegates representing 46 organisations, many of which are global. These were from a wide cross-section of industries, including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, utilities, oil and gas, transport, retail and distribution, government agencies, construction, publishing, travel, and the public sector.
The workshop had six case studies revealing a wide spectrum of experiences. In addition, there was extensive discussion on security and deployment. Other topics were policies, support, strategy, management, enterprise tools, and applications. The concept of Bring Your Own and its implications and challenges was discussed.
The discussion, whilst covering iPads, also covered other Post PC devices, including Android phones, BlackBerry® and tablet devices.
About one-third of attendees had an iPad with them, and over a half had handled one.
It is clear that people love iPads, but more importantly that they are being used to add value to the business. One organisation is planning to build its own iPad App for global use within the organisation. Another has already released one for public use - this is also used internally by employees rather than the intranet in some cases!
