Deploying iPads and other Post PC devices in the Corporate Environment
Discover the deployment of iPads and other post-PC devices in the corporate environment.
Summary
iPads are not a 'no-go' device. Organisations must come to terms with their existence within a corporate context.
The key benefits of iPad are Instant On, long battery life, negligible learning curve, very straightforward to use and excellent portability. Company executives can see productivity benefits to themselves, especially on long haul flights. Success at this level will inevitably mean that such devices will filter down through the organisation. Their use, however, exposes the organisation to a whole range of issues: security, connection to the corporate network, support, break-fix, legal implications, handling application development, data leakage, and potentially regulatory compliance issues.
This workshop, organised and hosted by the Corporate IT Forum, discussed the deployment of iPads and other post-PC devices in the corporate environment. In addition, a major global organisation described how they were handling an iPad trial, and two further organisations gave case study outlines of how they were handling end-user devices as part of their approach to consumerisation and mobility.
A total of 28 delegates representing 22 organisations attended this workshop. These organisations were from the financial services, pharmaceuticals, utilities, retail and consumer foods, distribution, light engineering, manufacturing, transport and public sectors. Many delegates were architects or security specialists.
