There are many different approaches taken to cross charging for IT services, the challenge is to pick the approach that will work in your organisation. There are also some organisations who feel cross charging is inappropriate and that this is not the only or best way to establish corporate governance over IT spending.
Summary
To charge or not to charge, both sides of the argument are covered, and there are various means to the end objective, of good management and governance of IT services. This report will help you select the route most appropriate for your business. Successful charging can be achieved with a minimum of bureaucracy but time spent in planning and thinking carefully through issues is essential. The report highlights a comprehensive list of critical areas and delegates share their experiences of solutions and best practice in each. These cover: How to get started - business commitment, ownership, and implementation. Selecting a charging model, and dealing with fixed, variable, shared services and infrastructure costs. Finally - how to handle pricing, billing, innovation, and incentivised pricing. "Charging is about cost effectiveness rather than cost reduction: if you don't understand what things cost then the business can't spend on the right things."
