Summary
The topic of managing mobile devices continues to grow in popularity. Consumerisation is all about choice, but this choice also brings many challenges.
In July 2011 The Corporate IT Forum conducted a Reality Checker survey on consumerisation that received 132 responses from over 70 organisations. Key findings show that personal devices allowed on to the corporate network are still rare, 'apps' are being created for customer use, and many respondents have seen, or expect to see, an increase in employee satisfaction where personal devices are allowed.
Do not get caught out by users: now is the time to look at the challenges around managing a mobile estate that includes a wide variety of devices, both corporate and personal and ensure you have the right infrastructure, policies and security in place to enable you to effectively manage and support this new mobile estate.
This discussion, for IT professionals responsible for, and with a key interest in the areas of mobile consumerisation, IT procurement and governance, had 29 contributors from 24 organisations covering a wide cross-section of industries, including paints and coatings, healthcare, utilities, property and construction, airlines, retail, energy, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, entertainments, recruitment, central government, manufacturing, brewing, automotive, food and drink, and transport.
The agenda included the following topics:
- How does a corporate ready itself for this shift in procurement strategies?
- What impacts have you seen or do you envisage over the coming months?
- Who provides the IT support?
- Moving towards a more 'fluid' environment
- Governance
