Question
Have you, or are you planning to, implement a cloud based virtual desktop solution where:
- a service provider hosts and manages required infrastructure at their premises?
- you provide the corporate desktop image and pay for usage (e.g. as and when images are used by your customers)?
Cloud based virtual desktop solutions are now being considered by some organisations to support client and PC diversity. Evidence for use of Cloud-based desktops is currently thin on the ground. In the public sector, there is some discussion of what the government's so-called 'G-Cloud' approach will eventually comprise. Its 2009 strategy envisioned a series of Cloud-based branded services: Software as a Service (SaaS); Platform as a Service (PaaS); and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for hosting existing applications. However, there have been some changes in the Government's approach and mindset in respect of G-Cloud and its current iteration is still under development.
