What Next for Active Directory? |
|
This report has been compiled from the shared experience of seven IT professionals representing five organisations, with experience of Active Directory totalling 36 years.
Represented industries included IT services, air travel and financial services.
Summary
The purpose of the webinar was to identify and discuss the key challenges around using Microsoft Active Directory.
Many IT organisations use Active Directory, but find they have never built a robust business case for the technology. Active Directory is often just "there" as a part of the IT infrastructure.
With the arrival of enterprise cloud services such as Microsoft 365, that could change. Organisations are beginning to see that Active Directory can be a powerful tool in a cloud environment - giving organisations greater ability to manage identities securely in the cloud, and move between providers, preventing them being 'locked in' to one vendor or platform.
However, before attempting this, it is vital that IT organisations ensure the data with Active Directory is of the best possible quality. This may mean migrating some identities from non-Microsoft directories, or combining data from several, older AD implementations - either consolidating, or creating a new, larger directory to hold all identities.
