Consumerisation of IT Summit

Download the Top Tips from the Forum's Consumerisation of IT Summit.

For the past year, the consumerisation of IT created by the flood of mobile consumer devices entering the organisation has been creating a headache for corporate IT professionals.

This is arguably one of the biggest challenges to face corporate IT departments in recent years, because it fundamentally undermines the control that IT has established over the use of technology in the organisation. Consumerisation cuts across the whole IT environment and in its broadest sense includes the use of Cloud-based delivery and social media.

What corporate IT departments must do is find the answers to a range of questions, which can be summed up as:

  • What do you want by way of consumerisation?
  • How will you know when your organisation's got it?
  • What will be happening when you get it?

To help its members understand consumerisation and what it means for organisations, the Corporate IT Forum organised the Consumerisation of IT Summit to explore the impact of High St consumer demands on the enterprise and to help map out the options to help its members exploit it.

This report has been compiled from experiences shared during the Summit which was attended by over 100 IT professionals representing 54 organisations covering a wide range of industries including media, construction, healthcare, retail, energy, central and local government, financial services, manufacturing, publishing, recruitment, audit and accounting, airlines, brewing, food and drink, petrochemicals, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

The Summit Agenda included the following topics:

  • What's new about consumerisation - have we been here before?
  • Where are Bring Your Own Device schemes headed - and how should they be implemented?
  • What are the implications of consumerisation for corporate applications?
  • What quick steps can you take to embrace consumerisation?
  • What is the impact of consumerisation on security, networks and licensing?

The Consumerisation of IT summit was supported by:
