Retaining and Developing the Right Skills

This report is from the presentation-led workshop on how SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) and other related frameworks can bring significant benefits to an organisation.

Summary

The Skills Framework for the Information Age is a logical, simple, two-dimensional framework which has been
developed by the SFIA Foundation (www.SFIA.org.uk ), a not-for-profit organisation established to encourage
appropriate skills development of staff in the IT industry. As it is a standard, the framework is readily available
from their website, free of charge for end-users who have registered with SFIA and accepted their terms &
conditions.
The framework has two axes, one consisting of areas of work and the other measuring levels of responsibility
which enables employers to measure the skills of employees within their organisation and identify where the
skills gaps are. It has the added benefit of allowing users to benchmark which skills they need for particular
jobs or career paths, for use in long term development plans and aspirations.
