Supporting Business Capabilities with Near Field Communication Technologies

With the surge of interest in consumerisation, and the proliferation of smart devices, Near Field Communication (NFC) - the short-range, standards-based, wireless connectivity technology - looks set to make a big impact. Already being deployed in contactless payment and 'infotag' initiatives, it's clear the technology is capable of speeding up and simplifying information transmission processes.

For the enterprise, accessing, capturing and integrating the information transmitted via NFC into existing systems can potentially improve business processes, enhance (real-time) information collection and usage, and support new marketing and business channels.

The Corporate IT Forum has identified 'Innovation - doing new things; doing things in new ways' as a theme for 2012 and will undertake the consideration of a wide range of topics to support this in the forthcoming year. The innovative use of 'bleeding edge' technology such as NFC in Business Intelligence and Customer Relationship Management exemplifies this.
