Deploying iPads and other Post PC devices in the Corporate Environment

This is a rapid reaction online workshop called for by members.

Summary:

Apple has been described as 'the Disney' of technology, adding a touch of magic to its products and having the midas touch when it comes to portable devices such as the iPhone and the iPod.  However it has yet to come up with a spell that can ward off evil spirits.  The debate over which operating system is more secure always evokes passionate responses from both sides but the reality is that there is huge concern over the security of the iPad, especially with the ever increasing demand for it to be used in a corporate environment. It is important for businesses to establish ground rules for the use of devices like the iPad, and to develop policies and procedures that take the security limitations of the device into consideration and adequately protect sensitive business data.

So with Christmas fast approaching, and the imminent post Christmas boom of personal devices coming into the workplace, members have requested a quick forum to enable collective discussion on Corporate IT strategy before the new year.

Objectives:

This webex will discuss the security issues of deploying the iPad and other post PC devices in the corporate environment.

Agenda:

Subjects to discuss so far include:

  • Employee and employer: accountabilities / responsibilities
  • Electrical testing of non-corporate devices
  • Loss, damage, theft of devices
  • Health and Safety (display screen equipment) Regulations 1992
  • Compliance (PCI, DPA, FSA)
  • Technology solutions (virtualisation (Citrix/VDI), VMware ACE, Good technology, Internet connectivity)
